Licences and licence files
How licences work in ClockGrapher, and how to use a licence file on a computer with no internet.
How licences work
A licence tells ClockGrapher that a computer may run it. A computer that is online checks and renews its licence by itself, so you normally never think about it. If a licence ends, capture stops; your recordings stay where they are, and the history and charts stay readable.
Beta licences
A beta licence covers only the most recent beta. When a newer beta comes out, you have 7 days to install it; after that the older one stops capturing. Without internet, a beta licence expires after 30 days. Beta builds stop working 30 days after version 1 is released.
Licence files
A licence file lets a computer that is never online run ClockGrapher. It is a small text file, ending in .cglicence, that you download from your account page. Keep it private: it is tied to your account.
- On a computer with internet, sign in to your account page and download the licence file.
- Copy it to the offline computer on a USB stick.
- In ClockGrapher, choose Add a licence file, then Choose the file, and open the file. Or double-click the file on that computer.
Moving a licence to another computer counts towards the limit of three moves in any thirty days. The support page has the details.
